Catalan-tastic! Nike Reveal New 2013/14 Barca Home & Away Kits

It's all about tradition for FC Barcelona next season as they reveal their 2013/14 Nike Home and Away shirts. The famous red and blue stripes are warmly welcomed back onto the home shirt, whilst the away shirt has been firmly beaten with the Catalan stick.

We reckon we're not alone in saying we're glad to see stripes back on the Barca home shirt and after seeing this one, we've now decided last season's was a bit of a blurry mess. The traditional red and blue stripes boldly return along with a yellow V-neck collar to represent the Catalan flag.

The away shirt... Now this is where things get interesting. For the first time, Barca will play in an away kit featuring the red and yellow of the Catalan flag - the Senyera - as the club's traditional stripes. Inside the yellow-ribbed crew neck collar is the club's motto mes que un club (more than a club). Granted, it's better than that sunset disaster last season and to be honest we like it, but we think it'll split opinion.

Both the home and away kits have a more athletic and dynamic fit thanks to the innovative programme led by Nike of scanning the bodies of some of the world s best players to produce a design better fitted to their anatomy.

Qatar Airways features on the shirts for the first time next season, well, it features on the Authentic shirts that the players will be wearing. The replica shirts will have Qatar foundation printed across the front of the jersey. The charity Unicef is acknowledged on the bottom of the back of both shirts.

There's not much you can fault with the home shirt, from the distinctively Blaugrana appearance of the stripes to the smaller details such as the Senyera on the inside of the collar, this year's home kit is a definite crowd pleaser. No gimmicks, just classic stripes. Nike have nailed it as far as we're concerned.

If you've ever visited Barcelona you'll know how proud the locals are of their Catalan identity; the Catalan flag hangs from every balcony and terrace in the city and features in the club's badge. Visually it might look like a dodgy blend of mustard and ketchup but there's no doubt it'll go down well in Catalonia. For good measure here's a photo of Messi and chums looking sad/confused/serious. Delete accordingly.

The new Nike FC Barcelona 2013/14 home away shirts will be available to order from selected online stockists including Pro-Direct Soccer. Let us know what you think of the new design.
