Nike have unveiled Manchester City's new away kit that pays tribute to a key moment in their history, which has taken them from the third tier of English football to Premier League Champions.
The new Manchester City away shirt features a dark blue collar with a lighter blue v-shaped insert, while the body consists of a series of blue bands. These tonal bands are dark blue at the top and gradually become lighter travelling to the hem to create a striking modern graphic.
The shirt remembers City's rise to the top from their days in the lower leagues of English football (the days before they could blow £17 million on Roque Santa Cruz). In May 1999 City beat Gillingham on penalties in the Division Two Play-Off Final wearing an away shirt of dark blue and yellow stripes and to honour that occasion this season’s away shirt features yellow names and numbers on the back, along with matching Nike swoosh and sponsor’s name.
