Premier League survival hopefuls Sunderland have unveiled their new adidas home strip for the 2016/17 season, featuring the club's famous red and white stripes and gold detailing throughout.
Designed using a largely similar template to their 2015/16 home outfit, the redesigned shirt is a more minimal affair with smart additions in the form of gold three stripes across the sleeves, a gold v-neck collar and a gold adidas chest logo.
Sunderland striker and top goal scorer at the Stadium of Light this season, Jermain Defoe, had this to say about the new design: “The Sunderland shirt is iconic and instantly recognisable across the world. Every player is tremendously proud to pull on the historic red and white stripes and we love this new shirt.” Kind words Jermain.
The Black Cats initially became part of the adidas stable in 2012, recently agreeing a new long-term partnership in 2014 through until the summer of 2020 ― the longest kit deal in the club’s history.
