In what was a fitting wash out for Real Madrid's first and only game wearing their adidas "Parley for the Oceans" jersey, Cristiano Ronaldo took the headlines scoring twice against Sporting Gijón at the Bernabéu.
Torrential downpour at the Santiago Bernabéu quickly rendered Real Madrid’s special edition Parley jersey’s transparent as the tonal shirts, manufactured using plastic waste gathered from the Indian Ocean, became a little too see through. The feint adidas logo, Real Madrid crest and Fly Emirates logo, normally seen in an off-white tonal print, were completely lost, leaving Madrid's players with plain white shirt.
Ronaldo, who we're sure wouldn't have a problem playing in a see-through kit every week, was back in the goals as his brace in a 2-1 win over Gijón at the drenched Bernabéu was enough to extend Real Madrid's lead at La Liga's summit. The "Parley for the Oceans" adidas kits were unveiled earlier in the month along with an UltraBOOST Uncaged Parley shoe. Bayern Munich were the first to wear theirs against Hoffenheim on the 5th November and now Real Madrid have sported their slicker than slick all-white edition.
Each is made from 28 recycled bottles taken from the Indian Ocean. So, to kit up the Real Madrid squad resulted in a total of 308 bottles being plucked out of the blue stuff. A retro-licious vibe from head to toe, even if they did end up being a tad transparent.
A worthy cause indeed. Oh, and stop throwing bottles in the sea, yeah?
