The capital city goes clean as adidas launch the 2019 DC United secondary jersey, which will see Wayne Rooney and co line-up in a crisp white-and-silver look when they’re playing away from Audi Field.
DC United’s previous secondary jersey was a bold red and black affair, but for this version the four-time MLS Cup winners have taken a minimalist approach that highlights the four championship stars above their crest. Other than that it’s a pretty nondescript alternate strip for the capital city side, presented in yet another snowy scene.
The lighter kit matches up with what adidas appear to have introduced across all teams this year, with Columbus Crew, New York City FC and Sporting KCA being the only teams without a white or lighter coloured kit. This ties in with how a lot of other US leagues operate, such as the NBA, where it is standard for teams to have at least one light kit. The NHL operates on a much more prescriptive rule of home teams wearing dark jerseys and away teams wearing light. So there you go.
The adidas DC United 2019 Secondary Jersey is not yet available for retail, but when it is, you'll be able to pick it up from MLSstore.com
