Drawing inspiration from the city’s reputation as the Energy Capital of the World due to the massive oil and gas industry presence, Houston Dynamos have launched their adidas primary jersey for the 2019 season, dubbed the “Energy Kit”.
It’s not just from the base commodities that Houston has earned its reputation though. The jersey has also drawn from the unique energy of its diverse and vibrant cultural and creative community. The unveiling of the jersey was more of a low-key affair than has been the case from some of the other clubs in recent weeks. Houston instead settled for gathering some of the most influential figures from the art and music scenes – as well as Mayor Sylvester Turner, a prominent supporter of La Naranja.
The jersey is orange, as you would expect from a Houston primary kit, but it features a dynamic sublimated lightning graphic across the jersey that lends it a little more depth. It incorporates ‘Space City Blue’ on the collar as a nod to the blue-collar mentality that built the city. The only other noticeable difference from previous kits comes in the new front sponsor, MD Anderson Cancer Center.
The team will debut the ‘Energy Kit’ at home on 26 February when they take on CD Guastatoya in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16.
