LA Galaxy have jumped in on the 2019 MLS shirt game by unveiling their new Secondary Jersey ahead of the upcoming campaign. The five time MLS Cup winners are heavyweight hitters and will be flexing hard with five star style when the season gets underway next month.
You might have noticed that MLS clubs only release one new kit per season – each shirt design is kept for two seasons, meaning that they alternate in bringing out home and away shirts (or Primary and Secondary as they call them in the US) each off-season. As LA Galaxy brought out a new home kit for 2018, this year sees the arrival of a fresh away strip.
Featuring a glitchy-styled design, the new adidas LA Galaxy Secondary Shirt puts a modernised twist on a colour combination that the club have used before on their away strips. Titled the 'Night Navy' kit, the body features a vertical stripe design with a digital glitch inspiration for a bespoke look that stands proudly away from the templates widely used elsewhere.
The 'This is LA' jock tag returns, as does the 'Galaxy' wordmark on the back neck. In 2019, both the primary and secondary will feature five stars on the jersey above the club crest, to represent the record five MLS Cups won in 2002, 2005, 2011, 2012 and 2014. As previously mentioned, the white jersey that was worn throughout 2018 will remain as the home shirt in 2019.
LA Galaxy, spearheaded by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, will kick off their 2019 campaign at home to Chicago Fire on March 3 before making their first away trip of the season six days later at FC Dallas. Will they be able to fit a sixth star on next year's kit? It's a nice problem to be thinking about...
