The last in a long line of new launches for the upcoming 2019 MLS season has finally arrived. Providing a look unlike any other currently in the league, adidas have unveiled the new Seattle Sounders secondary jersey, named “Nightfall”.
It seems that an MLS jersey wouldn’t be an MLS jersey if it didn’t have a name. Yep, the Americans sure love a bit of dramatic flair and storytelling to accompany their kits, and “Nightfall”, Seattle Sounders' new secondary jersey for the 2019 season, doesn’t disappoint. Launched at a special event at Zulily headquarters, the all-black kit features striking pink accents along the sleeves and sides.
In addition to the distinctive side striping elements, Nightfall features a new jock tag depicting two iconic silhouettes: The CenturyLink Field arches set against the background of Mount Rainier. Additionally, the neck tape proclaims “Cascades to Sea,” echoing the overall theme of the kit that celebrates the unique wild beauty of the region.
The design inspiration for the “Nightfall” kit came from the evening sky over CenturyLink Field during an iconic match in Sounders FC history, as Seattle faced rivals Portland in front of 64,207 home fans on July 13, 2014. The pink sky highlighted an amazing game in which Clint Dempsey and Marco Pappa led the team to victory with a goal apiece. “Nightfall” will obviously serve primarily as Seattle’s away kit in the 2019 season, though in a slight change to the norm, it will also be worn at a select home game that will be announced later in the season.
Seattle hosts expansion side FC Cincinnati on Saturday 2 March, in the Rave Green’s opening match of the 2019 MLS season.
