The competition to be the biggest soccer team in the Big Apple gets set to kick off for another season, and New York City FC have unveiled their 2019 home jersey, which pays homage to the city itself and the iconic characters which make it like nowhere else.
The jersey was unveiled via a video titled “For the City, By the City”, and it showcases one young fan's journey to a rec league kick about. On the way he encounters other New Yorkers who are also real-life NYCFC fans, including a firefighter and a pizza vendor. Ah New York.
2019 Team Captain, Alex Ring, said of the video and jersey: “I like that our Club decided to use fans in the video. I am proud to lead the team for the first time as captain and wear our new home jersey. Every time I put it on I will think of the City and fans we are proud to represent.”
Arriving in the traditional sky blue colours of the club, the jersey features a pigeon mosaic on the jock tag, honouring the unofficial bird of the city, a vertical stripe in the colours of the New York City flag, and the flag itself featured on the back neck. Done.
