Stoke City have revealed a specially commissioned shirt that pays tribute to the late Gordon Banks OBE. Stoke’s keeper – likely to be Jack Butland – will wear the special shirt against Aston Villa on Saturday, 23 February.
The shirt has been recreated by Stoke City’s kit supplier, Macron, in the same green look of that which Banks wore in the 70s. It features no name, no sponsor and no badge, replicating the shirt Banks wore when Stoke won their only major trophy in 1972. The EFL gave the club special permission for the kit not to feature a badge or sponsor, reflecting the one which was used almost 47 years ago.
The game against Villa is Stoke’s first home game since the passing of Banks on 12 February, and there will also be a special Banks official matchday magazine with 84 pages dedicated to the great goalkeeping legend. Banks moved to Stoke in 1967, where he made 194 appearances in six years at the club. He also made 73 appearances for England and started every game of the country's World Cup victory in 1966.
The special edition of the Potters' matchday magazine, dedicated to Gordon Banks, is available here.
