Nike have turned on their special edition charm by launching a limited edition jersey to help the French Football Federation celebrate their 100th birthday. The retro take on the France home shirt was worn by the squad when they took on Iceland at the Stade de France on Monday night.

With vintage vibes typical of the relationship between the FFF and Nike, the special edition jersey cuts a throwback look thanks to it's minimal but elegant design. The royal blue shirt hosts a matching blue Swoosh to ensure that the returning and modified gold crest & two stars are the main features on the jersey which sticks to Nike's VaporKnit design. A smart buttoned, fold-over collar with tricolour tag wraps up the overall look.

Don’t get used to seeing Griezmann, Mbappe, Pogba and co. in the jersey; the game against Iceland was the only occasion that the French are set to wear the throwback threads. They certainly did the shirt proud though, with a vintage performance in their 2020 European Championship Qualifier. Goals from Samuel Umtiti, Olivier Giroud, Kylian Mbappe, and Antoine Griezmann sealed a comfortable 4-0 win for Les Bleus.

But it’s not the end of the Centenary design, as Nike have created a limited run of the shirts to release to retail, all of which are in long sleeve to stay loyal to that throwback feel. No chance of recreating Umtiti or Giroud’s look we’re afraid.

The new jersey was announced by France manager and 1998 World Cup winner Didier Deschamps and captain Hugo Loris during the press conference ahead of the Iceland game, where they confirmed that team would wear the kit as the game falls on the closest possible playing date to the 100th anniversary of the FFF, which was founded on 7 April 1919.
