Nike unwrap another package of nostalgia by releasing a limited edition remake of the iconic Barcelona 1998/99 home shirt. The block stripes of blue and red are re-born for a new generation to appreciate, it's a design that is peak Rivaldo and unquestionably Barcelona.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Barcelona's La Liga victory in 1999, the shirt is one that resonates hard for a certain generation. An influx of new signings such as Ronald de Boer, Patrick Kluivert, Frank de Boer, Boudewijn Zenden and Phillip Cocu joined the likes of Luis Figo and top scorer Rivaldo in a season that saw Barca retain the Spanish title in one of their cleanest Nike home designs.

The minimal layout ensured the the 1998/99 home shirt was one of the most crowd-pleasing designs in Nike era. The centralised Swoosh and club crest, plus the absence of a shirt sponsor gave this jersey a look that was fully owned by the club. Raiding their archives to bring it back, Nike will release a limited number of the shirts from April 10 to coincide with Barcelona's visit to Manchester United in the Champions League. But no, it won't be worn on pitch.
