Nike Launch The Brazil Copa America 100th Anniversary Jersey

Nike have gone way back for the inspiration behind the Brazil 2019 Copa America away kit by unveiling a design that celebrates the 100th anniversary of Brazil's first Copa America success in 1919. That tournament was hosted in their own back yard, and as they prepare to host again this summer, Nike have re-visited an iconic white and blue combo.

The yellow of Brazil is one of the most recognisable identities in world sport, but once upon a time the home shirt for the South Americans was white and blue. It remained white and blue until they lost against Uruguay in the 1950 World Cup Final, and that's when the yellow and blue took over. For their new away kit, though, Nike are taking things back to the very start for a sleek, modernised edition that represents the very first chapter of Brazilian football.

Set to be worn alongside a new, and as of yet unreleased, home kit for the 2019 Copa America this summer, the white and blue away strip is a simplistic design that features an all white base with blue trim on the cuffs, Swoosh and retro fold-over polo neck collar. A green and blue graphic on the rear of the neck completes the classy aesthetic. As with most of the Nike 2018 World Cup shirts, the template looks basic from afar, but up close it's a visual treat thanks to the statement VaporKnit design running throughout.

So who's gonna wear that collar up then? Has to be Neymar doesn't it? Good to see the fold-over collar making a comeback in strong style. The 90s equivalent of wearing gold boots. Overall, the Brazil 2019 Copa America away shirt is pure five star throwback. Expect it to make a debut in the opening Group Stage match when they take on Bolivia on June 15 in São Paulo.
