Celebrating anniversaries of past triumphs has been a trend with a lot of new shirt releases recently, and Umbro have helped Santos join the party with their new 2019/20 home shirt, which pays homage to the club’s treble success from 55 years ago.
The new Santos 2019/20 home shirt from Umbro is a stunning looking shirt by its own merit. Add to that the fact that it’s ingrained with callouts to the team from 1964 who enjoyed a superb trio of titles, and it stands out as something special.
Several nods in the shirt design hark back to the classic style of the 1964 Santos FC team who won the Campeonato Paulista, Rio-São Paulo and the Copa do Brazil. An insignia on the shirt bar refers to the three titles won as well as highlighting the commemorative date and the 55 year celebration while the second, on the back of the collar, brings a modern blend between the diamond of Umbro and the 55 years of the Triple Crown.
The base-white template is complemented by subtle details, including an embossed ‘SFC’ pattern that runs down both sleeves, as well as silver accents that pop on the collar and sleeve cuffs. The Santos shield sits on the left of the chest and is made of TPU, giving more prominence to the club’s coat of arms. You’d think there’s not a great deal you can do with a shirt when the team’s primary colour is white, but here Umbro have emphatically proved otherwise.
