Manchester United roll out their 2019/20 away shirt, featuring a design inspired by the city’s artwork. Breaking away from tradition with a bold new design and colour palette, the 19/20 United away shirt is disruptively different, and we're all over that.
The new 2019/20 adidas away shirt features a fresh savannah-toned aesthetic and intricate patterned design that takes its inspiration from the many mosaics that colour the streets of Manchester’s creative district, the Northern Quarter. The jersey uses an all over print to create one of the most bespoke and distinct kits of the new Premier League campaign.
Continuing to blur the lines between sport and style, adidas have blended both cultures in to a single piece of design. The clean Savannah colour is paired with a minimal black secondary colour that adorns the adidas three stripes on the shoulders, a modern crewneck collar, a trimmed hem and the club’s iconic badge. It's also a colour scheme that finally lets the Chevrolet sponsor logo blend in without completely butchering the design.
The Manchester United players are joined by local music artist Aitch, in the launch film for the kit. A Manchester native and United fan, Aitch has written a track to celebrate the launch which he performs in the video.
We wanted more bespoke design and less templates and we're certainly getting that this season. Of course, sometimes it's good to take the nostalgia trip with a re-make of an retro favourite, but it takes much more bravery to create a new chapter of the club's history and execute it so well. Fresh look, local influence, what's not to like?
The Manchester United 19/20 adidas away jersey will be seen on pitch for the first time when the Red Devils kick off their pre-season tour on 13th July 2019, against Perth Glory, in Australia.
