Nike completes a striking double for its Italian capital city club, launching the AS Roma 2019/20 away shirt, which uses the same Roman mythology-inspired lightning graphic from the home shirt, tying the pair together in one of the standout combos so far this season.
The Roma 2019/20 home shirt featured a literal flash of brilliance in the shape of a lightning bolt on the collar and cuffs, and now Nike utilise that bolt once more for the away shirt, but in a far bolder execution, expanding it and positioning it centrally so that it garners all the focus it deserves. It’s effectively the best sash you’ve ever seen, running from the left shoulder to the right hip. Lightning striking the same place twice for one of the most desirable double drops of the season to date. Mark this in your 'one to get' list.
The lightning bolt detail has been taken right out of Roman mythology, being associated with Jupiter, the Roman God of the Sky. It features the crimson and orange colours associated with Roma’s home look, striking across the white base for maximum impact. Gotta say it looks so much better without the 'Qatar Airways' sponsor blatted across the front though...
As with the home kit, the away kit features socks – naturally, but in this case white – that also carry the lightning bolt design. Crimson shorts complete the Giallorossi’s away look.
“When you combine Roma’s famous colours with the depth of the city’s mythology then you have a really potent mix," says Pete Hoppins, Nike Football Apparel Senior Design Director. "The lightning theme is a powerful concept for 2019/20, and I think both the home and away kits give fresh takes while staying true to the club’s identity.” Got that right, Pete.
