Umbro go way back to some of Everton’s earliest strips for inspiration for the 2019/20 away shirt, drawing on the success from over a century ago with a “Living Coral” colour that’s accented with pops of navy.
The Everton 2019/20 away shirt features a “Living Coral” colour that pays homage to the salmon coloured kit that was worn by the team throughout the club’s first league title-winning season in 1890/91. And yes, before you say anything they’ve had other success since then. It’s just… been a while… The salmon coloured kit came 11 years before the permanent adoption of royal blue jerseys in 1901/02.
Navy trim features around the collar and through the sponsor, branding and club crest, while an ‘EFC’ sign-off detail on the back of the neck echo’s this year’s home shirt. The new shirt also features a distinctive two-tone coral sash design, paying homage to the design synonymous with the black and scarlet sash kit that earned Everton the nickname ‘the Black Watch’ in 1881. Navy blue shorts with coral detail and coral socks with a navy blue turnover then complete the away kit.
Robin Dunn, Head of Performance at Umbro UK, said: “We knew that this particular colour would strike a chord with the Everton fans as they have a familiar history of salmon and coral coloured strips. We took inspiration from previous kits and added a twist to the traditional stripes, with a two-tone diagonal front jacquard.”
