To mark the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, Bundesliga outfit Hertha BSC have released a special, limited edition Nike jersey, and it’s set to be worn on pitch in the game against RB Leipzig on 9 November.
30 years ago on the 9 November, the divide in the German city of Berlin was finally brought to a crumbling end, and this historic occasion is set to be commemorated by Hertha BSC when they wear a specially designed limited edition kit that takes its cues from the one that the team wore back in 1989 in the first game after the wall fell. The shirt celebrates the unity of a city and the coming together of its people as part of the "Wir sind ein Berliner" campaign.
Known as the Mauerfall jersey, the design is based on the match shirts from the 89/90 kit that the club wore against Wattenscheid. Main sponsor TEDi and sleeve and auto sponsor Hyundai are showing their support for this initiative having agreed to give up their usual spots on the front and sleeves of the shirt, and they’re replaced by the club’s bear mascot to represent the Berlin coat of arms. There’s also the option to get some limited-edition retro printing on the shirt; the printing includes the word 'Berlin' and the number ’89’, with the option of choosing both or just one.
The Hertha Berlin Mauerfall shirt is available now from the club's online store.
