Manchester United and adidas have released their second drop of Chinese New Year pieces as the Three Stripes deliver a standout jersey for the Red Devils, complete with Dragon print to celebrate Chinese folklore.
The first launch came back in February when Manchester United capitalised on their popularity in the Asian market as they ushered in the Chinese New Year with a special range of adidas clothing, comprising of a sweatshirt and matching pants, a graphic tee, and a ZNE hoodie, all of which featured subtle Chinese detailing throughout. Now, they're signing off the year of the Dragon with a statement jersey that drops just as 2019 wraps up.
A jacket, tee and sweatshirt complete the latest updates to the Manchester United Chinese New Year collection but it's all about that bold jersey with centralised club crest and adidas logo. The late appearance of the shirt will have fans questioning why United aren't waiting a week or so to launch a 2020 version. But 2020 is the year of the rat, and well, that just wouldn't look as good would it? Dragons are far sexier to sell than rats.
Manchester United have visited China for pre-season tours in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2012, 2013 and most recently in 2019 as the club look to establish themselves as the leading football team in the Chinese market. Their colours of red lend themselves nicely to that audience and United have become China's most popular European team thanks to several sponsorship deals with Chinese companies, the tours, and of course projects like this with adidas.
