Hope & Glory Produce @FistedAway x Soundwell Charity Shirt

We’ve seen some wild football shirt designs making their way back onto the scene recently, but now sportswear manufacturer Hope and Glory may have produced one of the wildest yet, and it comes from the mind of a five year old boy.

The world of shirt design has been steadily loosening it’s restrictive grip over the last few seasons, with deviant efforts such as the 2018 Nigeria shirt being widely lauded. As a result, this welcome approach is becoming more accepted, with Nike recently announcing that it was ditching templates going forward. Both the Swoosh and adidas have introduced ‘hand-drawn’ elements to their latest kit designs, and that concept has now been pushed to the extreme.

At the beginning of March, Twitter user and proud dad @fistedaway posted a picture of his five year old son’s design for a football shirt. Fair enough. But then the internet did what the internet does, and before long the wild design was doing the rounds, with numerous custom designers, including @Saintetixx and @gamer_kits, producing their own takes on what the shirt would look like should it be created.

And now Hope and Glory sportswear manufacturer have taken the next step, creating the shirt and making it available for retail, with the news that a proportion of profits from the sale of the shirt will go to Soundwell Music Therapy Trust. Soundwell provides music therapy within the South West for adults whose lives are seriously affected by mental health issues. They support people in their mental health recovery and provide emotional support to carers, using music to explore creativity, communication and expression. This can rebuild hope and transform lives.

Quite the story of the power of the football community coming together, particularly in these times. And it all came from a five-year-old’s drawing. Bet you’ll think twice before you chuck junior’s doodle in the bin next time…
