Sticking with what works, adidas have revealed the River Plate home shirt for the 20/21 season. The design features only minimal tweaks to last season’s design, with the club’s famous sash still maintaining the central focus. The players will wear the jersey for the first time on November 22, when River Plate faces Banfield in the Professional League Cup.
Shirt design must sometimes feel a bit like reinventing the wheel at times, especially with the restrictions of a club’s tradition on home shirts in particular. With that in mind, the River Plate home shirt for the 20/21 season only features minimal tweaks to what came before in the 2019/20 season. The main alteration is focused around that famous sash, the central element of the shirt's design.
A subtle tweak, but a powerful one that takes deep meaning from the club’s proud history, the sash goes around the whole shirt in one continual loop, with the Three Stripes on the shoulder overlaying it as opposed to last seasons shirt, where the branding broke that loop. It means that the sash takes on an eternal stripe meaning that defines the club – a feature that is continued from the 20/21 away shirt, although more apparent here on the white base. The campaign for the launch of "La Banda Eterna" covers some of the most glorious moments in the history of the club and features iconic idols such as Enzo Francescoli and Ariel Ortega.
Other tweaks for the design come in the colouring of the Three Stripes, which this time take on a silver/grey hue, while the collar is switched to a v-neck style. Other than those changes then it’s as you were. Clean and traditional – can’t ask for much more.
