Austin FC are gearing up for their inaugural season in the MLS in 2021, and as part of their preparations the club have unveiled their first-ever primary jersey. The club’s signature verde and black identity is prominently established in a vertical stripe pattern.
Years of planning and preparation are nearing fruition, as Matthew McConaughey’s Austin FC (yes, Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey) prepare for their inaugural season in MLS next year as the league’s 27th club. And now we know what they’ll be wearing – for their home games at least – after the club unveiled their new primary kit. The jersey lands in Austin FC’s signature colours of bright verde and black, presented in a classic vertical stripe pattern.
The pattern is a reinforcement of the two intertwined oak trees featured within the Club crest – representing the Club and the City – which grow stronger together. The 2021 primary jersey, manufactured by adidas, projects the vibrancy and creative energy of Austin through the distinctive bright verde and black colours, while paying tribute to the legacy of vertical stripes in classic kit designs globally across generations.
Further design features include the three-letter abbreviation for Austin, Texas, “ATX”, on the jock tag, as well as the script “Estamos Listos” (“We are Ready”) on the neck tape. The shirt will be available for fans to pick up from the club’s signature Verde Van—a mobile retail truck—that will visit four sites across Austin from Nov. 18-21.
“The reveal of Austin FC’s first-ever primary jersey is another milestone in the development of our Club as we prepare for our inaugural season in 2021,” commented Andy Loughnane, Austin FC President. “This jersey embodies the verde identity of our Club and our City, and we believe it will soon become a mainstay for Austinites.”
