Reaction To The Debut Of Germany's New Away Kit

This week saw adidas unveiling new away shirts for the majority of its national teams in preparation for the delayed Euro 2020 tournament, and it’s fair to say that the Germany shirt in particular stood out from the rest thanks to their simple and stealthy blackout jersey.

Germany strolled to a 3-0 win over Iceland in their World Cup qualifier Group J opener on Thursday night, thanks to goals from Goretzka, Havertz and Gündoğan. But the free flowing attack of the German side wasn’t the only thing that was easy on the eye, thanks to the debut of their new away kit. The design of the new shirt saw the inclusion of charcoal-grey coloured branding and crest detailing, making the shirt appear almost completely devoid of colour, barring the subtle German black-red-gold flag colours on the sleeve cuffs. This was the sleekest of shirt designs, and football fans the world over lapped it up.

Despite the increasing popularity of jersey culture and its continuing adoption by both lifestyle and fashion circles, rarely do you get a shirt that is able to transition so seamlessly between the pitch and these worlds. However, this design does it without even breaking stride. Seductively sleek in its execution, it simply stole the show on Thursday night.

And if the kit alone wasn’t enough, Germany also got one of the best prematch shirts going too, which again got its debut in the warm up ahead of the Iceland game. Now to us, that’s just plain greedy. 

Early rumours had suggested that even the player numbers might appear in the charcoal grey colouring, however this understandably proved not to be the case, mainly due to FIFA regulations. The white numbering and names did stick out a bit, but it;’s not enough to detract from what is one of the best national kits to hit the scene in recent memory, as Twitter confirmed...
