Having unveiled their new retro-infused special edition kit from PUMA earlier in the day, Borussia Dortmund then debuted the 90’s-inspired number in their 4-1 win against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga.
Throwing it back to the 90s, Borussia Dortmund unveiled a new special edition kit on the weekend, which they promptly gave a winning debut to in their Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen. The black and neon kit harked back to designs worn by the Dortmund side that rose to prominence in the mid ‘90s after winning a pair of Bundesliga titles and the 1997 UEFA Champions League. Following many historic duels during this era Werder Bremen were the perfect opponents.
The jersey celebrates the heroes of one of BVB’s most successful eras by integrating images of BVB legends Michael Zorc, Karl-Heinz Riedle, Lars Ricken, Matthias Sammer, Julio Cesar, Knut Reinhardt, Stephane Chapuisat, Stefan Klos, Jörg Heinrich, Paul Lambert, Flemming Povlsen, Paulo Sousa, Heiko Herrlich and Günter Kutowsk into the fabric with a special message: “Every era begins with the will of its heroes.”
Having fallen behind early on, the match was pretty much tied up by minute 38, when Haaland scored his second, following Gio Reyna’s equalising strike. The result was completed by a late Mats Hummels goal to give the special edition kit a result that was worthy of the look.
If you were hoping to get your hands on this jersey then prepare to be disappointed... it flew off the shelves on release. Soz bout that.
