To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Japan Football Association’s founding, adidas have released a new shirt that takes inspiration from the first national XI in 1930 and from the uniform worn in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
Offering up some limited edition treatment while helping to celebrate the Japan Football Association’s 100th anniversary, adidas have revealed a special edition shirt that’s set to be worn by the national team in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers in June. As a nod to the occasion, only 2,021 shirts are set to be produced, so if you’re after one, you better be quick.
The Japan 100th Anniversary kit features a much lighter blue than the trademark Samurai Blue, indigo-influenced shade usually used, and the shirts feature a gold '100 – 1921—2021' graphic in the neck. White details stand out in the form of the classic collar and cuffs, while the Japanese flag sits on the left of the chest. subtle tonal branding completes the look. Each shirt will be shipped in a traditional paulownia wooden box, including 10 postcards that tell the history of Japanese football.
