Confirming the long-circulating rumours, the Jumpman has been promoted to the home shirt for PSG’s 21/22 kit, marking the fourth year of Jordan Brand and Paris Saint-Germain’s partnership.

Four years of football-culture-changing moves, and now Jordan brand and Paris Saint-Germain bring the Jumpman home. It’s a huge move for the basketball brand, who take the reigns from parent company Nike on the 21/22 home shirt for the first time. The move confirms leaks and reports that have been circulating in recent months, culminating in a PES kit design pretty much hitting the nail on the head in terms of look.

The navy-blue, red and white colour scheme of the PSG 21/22 home shirt preserves the club’s DNA. While the Jumpman takes its place on the front of the shirt, the rest of the design shifts from recent looks synonymous with PSG. The classic navy base is still present, but the red and white that completes the famous tricolore is switched on to the collar and cuffs, abandoning the traditional look of the Hechter centre stripe. Not that it’s gone entirely mind; look closely and you can still see it in place in a tonal execution.

Then of course, there’s those shorts. They take the relationship with basketball to a whole new level, with design cues from memorable Chicago Bulls kits, in particular the diamond side panels and red piping along the sleeves and collar, bring classic basketball iconography to the pitch.

The PSG x Jordan 21/22 home shirt and collection will be available on prodirectsoccer.com from 20 May.
