MLS & adidas Unveil 2021 'Americana' Prematch Jerseys

Taking inspiration from the iconic USA 1994 World Cup shirt, Adidas and MLS unveil the 2021 ‘Americana’ prematch jerseys, released to help all the U.S. sides commemorate Independence Day on 4 July.

Ensuring a uniform approach to festivities, celebrations and good causes, adidas often supply their MLS roster with template prematch jerseys, and one that they’ve done before is the ‘Americana’ jersey ahead of Independence Day. Due to the pandemic, we missed out on one last year, but now the 2021 iteration has been revealed, and it takes influence from the USA shirt from the 1994 World Cup.

The 2021 ‘Americana’ prematch jersey sees the same wavy red and white stripe design as the ’94 OG – obviously lifted straight from the American flag. In line with adidas's recent artistic approach and hand-painted style, the red stripes have a brushstroke effect. It’s a subtle tweak, but one that lends the design a contemporary feel, while still capturing the core aesthetic of its inspiration. Navy details on the cuffs, collar, sponsor and branding finish the look off.

As with previous prematch shirts, the template will come with club crests and sponsors and the 'Americana' jersey will be worn ahead of fixtures spanning 2 – 5 July.
