Dutch Champions Ajax have unveiled their new home kit for the upcoming campaign with a throwback twist. The 21/22 home shirt, made by Adidas, drops in with classic detailing from a club that always delivers when it comes to kit design.
After running away with the Eredivisie title last season, Ajax will defend their throne wearing a home shirt that showcases a retro feature. After such an unreal season, this historical club logo will be back on the home jersey, in what is a one-off tribute to the fans, and it's a tribute that has gone down very well with the Ajax faithful.
The club are taking that throwback feel one step further by announcing that the kits will only feature a retro typeface number on the backs of the shirts in all Eredivisie matches throughout the 2021/22 season – meaning that none of their players names will sit above their respective squad numbers. Not for UEFA tournaments though, those lot don't like creativity, Ajax will bring the names back for that.
Typically smart, but then this is Ajax, it was always going to be.
