Kappa Launch Venezia 21/22 Home Shirt

Venezia FC have built a reputation around some of the best bespoke kits in the game over the last few years, so eyebrows were raised when it was announced that the Italian side were ending their relationship with Nike, and starting anew with Kappa. That announcement came back in June, coinciding with confirmation of Venezia’s return to Serie A, and now we get the first release from the pair, with the club’s new home shirt for the 21/22 season, and thankfully it continues the legacy of outstanding shirts that the Venetians have become known for.

Excitement around seeing the likes of Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic arriving at Stadio Pierluigi Penzo by boat is already at a high, and now we have a shirt that’ll be fitting of the occasion for the home side, the design of which was led by New York creative agency Fly Nowhere in collaboration with Kappa. 

The base of the shirt reveals a printed trompe l’oeil Venetian wall texture, created from photographs of aged façades taken around the lagoon, elevating the piece from a standard flat black top, and making it uniquely derived from the city.

The textured black base is embellished with impressive gold elements, inspired by the city’s gilded churches, monuments, and palazzi and the overall historical significance of gold in Venetian art and commerce going back to the Late Medieval and Early Renaissance periods. Most notably, the shirt features the gold stars of the iconic Basilica di San Marco arranged as a “V”. 

One of the standout features of recent Venezia shirts has been the presence of the “Venezia” script in place of a traditional sponsor, and it appears once again here in gold, proudly sitting atop the aforementioned “V” graphic.

Venezia’s orange and green come together in a flag positioned at the upper centre chest, in a nod to the supporters, while those club colours also accent the collar and sleeves.
