Gearing up to defend their La Liga crown, Atletico Madrid and Nike have unveiled the club’s new home look for the 21/22 season, with a design that commemorates the 75th anniversary of the club’s current name, reimagining the first red and white kit design under Club Atlético de Madrid in 1947.
Atletico Madrid were able to beat Real Madrid and Barcelona to the La Liga crown last season, and they’ll be looking to defend their title in the coming 21/22 season. That season also represents the 75th anniversary of the club’s current official name of Club Atlético de Madrid – a choice that kicked off a golden era for the club – and so Nike have used this as the inspiration for the new home shirt, taking the design from 1947 and giving it a contemporary twist.
That historic 1947 shirt featured a central white stripe that returns in this new design. The front of the shirt also features a huge letter “A” created by the central red stripes, another tribute to Atlético de Madrid. Navy blue shorts combined with blue and white striped socks complete the look. Following in the brand’s sustainable approach, the new kits that players will wear on the pitch as well as the replica jerseys for the fans are constructed with 100 percent recycled polyester fabric, made from recycled plastic bottles.
