The next big step in Angel City FC’s journey comes today, with the club unveiling their inaugural kit from Nike, which features a design that pays homage to the Los Angeles sunrise, symbolising a new dawn for women’s sports.
Angel City FC is Los Angeles’ first NWSL team, and it boasts a stellar group of A-list founders, including Academy Award-winning actress and activist Natalie Portman. They continue to hit markers as they edge towards their debut season next year, and following the reveal of the club crest back in June, now they unveil their inaugural kit from Nike. The jersey design is steeped in meaning as the intricate details mirror the iconic Los Angeles sunrise and the idea that ACFC represents something new, impactful, and game-changing.
The arrival of the new kit signals a new era for women’s sports. The new era is represented in the design by a geometric sunrise pattern symbolising the first light on a dark horizon marking the start of a new day. The zigzag pattern that is between the rows of sunrise graphics, mirrors that of the official flag of Los Angeles. The jersey takes a classic, time-honoured look, made for any generation to sport. Every fan that wears the inaugural ACFC jersey shows that they are a fan from day one. The team mantra – “VOLEMOS” – is on the nape of the neck as a reminder to always keep flying to greater heights – together.
“My favourite part is the subtle reminder that we are doing things differently,” said Angel City founding investor and soccer legend Julie Foudy. “It looks so good. I am going to rock it in the stands like the crazy fan that I am going to be. We have been talking about this for so long and it is finally here.”
Due to global supply chain challenges, the kit will be available for purchase in early 2022.
