Highlighting the club’s ongoing support for sustainable development in Africa, TSG Hoffenheim and Joma have unveiled a special edition ‘Africa’ kit, which the club will wear in their Bundesliga home match against VfL Bochum on Saturday 2 April.
For years, TSG Hoffenheim has focused its international activities on Africa, supporting sustainable development on the continent on a number of different fronts. Now, at a time when Africa is directly affected by the war in Ukraine (last year Africa was supplied with wheat, corn, cooking oil and other staple foods worth about 6 billion euros from Ukraine and Russia), Hoffenheim choose to show their support for the continent with a special limited edition kit.
The kit features a bold design from supplier Joma, inspired by African patterns. The dark green base is joined by that bold pattern, which continues on from the shirt and is carried down the side of the shorts and on to the socks for a nice flow right through. It's the little details that can make a kit special, and this ticks that box.
The shirt is fully sustainable, being made entirely of recycled polyester, just like TSG’s other shirts this season. It features the logo of TSG's own sustainable clothing brand “umoja" (umoja is Swahili and means unity). This logo swap is being made possible thanks to TSG's main sponsor SAP, who are waiving their trademark for the match against Bochum in favour of "umoja".
The "umoja" brand, founded in Hoffenheim, manufactures 100 percent of its collection in Uganda. The cotton is grown and harvested in the Kasese region and is "Cotton made in Africa" certified. The entire value chain takes place under fair and safe working conditions – from the cultivation and harvesting of the cotton, to ginning, spinning, weaving, wet finishing and making up to the finished product.
The special shirt is being released in a limited run of 1,000 items, and part of the proceeds from the sales and the subsequent auction of the jerseys worn by the first team in the match will go to the club’s partner "Viva con Agua" for the benefit of the "Football4Wash" project in Uganda, where "umoja" is produced.
