Arriving without a sponsor (no bad thing) while the club wait to replace Qatar Airways, adidas and Boca Juniors have unveiled the club’s new home shirt for the 22/23 season, and it sees the return of a design from the early 90s.
The Boca Juniors 2022 third shirt dropped back in March, and it saw the return of a collar to the club’s shirts, and now the away shirt follows suit, bringing a proper retro vibe to the Argentinian side’s look. The shirt arrives in a traditional blue base with that trademark yellow band through the centre, but as mentioned, it is currently sans sponsor after the club’s deal with Qatar Airways expired. Here’s hoping for something that fits the mould in more ways than one…
The returning collar also comes in the same yellow as the chest band, as does the sleeve cuffs and branding, together combining for a look that is startlingly reminiscent of the Boca Juniors home shirt from 1990/92, although the blue is a lighter shade than the shirt that Gabriel ‘Batigol’ Batistuta sported. The design is signed off with Boca's nickname, Xeneize, which is written below the back of the collar in yellow. The shirt reverts to the club's traditional crest after the use of the CABJ lettering badge during last season, which was a tribute to the jersey worn by Diego Maradona in the early 80s.
The Boca Juniors 22/23 home shirt is available from the club's online store.
