Hot on the heels of the new home shirt, Manchester United have revealed their new away shirt for the 22/23 season from adidas, and it sees a return of a white design, making it the first white away shirt for the club since the 15/16 season. Following the reveal in Melbourne as part of the club’s ‘Down Under’ preseason tour, United will debut the new away kit in their friendly against Crystal Palace on 19 July.
Manchester United have a strong history of white alternate shirts, so the new design for the 22/23 season from Adidas will likely be welcomed by most fans. Another factor that won’t hurt that cause is that the white base forms part of what is a smart design for the Red Devils, with two-tone black and red Three Stripe details featuring across the shoulders ensuring all three core club colours come together through the kit.
Further more, there’s also the addition of red and white accents in the black collar and cuffs, together creating a strong visual identity, born from the 90s. That’s combined with a subtle helix pattern that’s been engineered into the fabric of the jersey, drawing inspiration from the DNA and rich graphical identity of Manchester United jerseys. The fluid lines once again reference elements from ‘90s, intersecting in motion to bring a fresh perspective and modern interpretation of an icon.
Inigo Turner, Design Director at adidas said: “We approached this kit that the club will wear in opponent’s stadiums around the world with a fresh perspective, aiming to capture an indisputable sense of collective conviction and common purpose. Wherever the club goes, we wanted it to carry its philosophy of youth, courage, and success, proudly woven into the fabric of the kit for players and fans alike to wear together.”
