Paying homage to the '89 cup shirt in which the team achieved great success, Borussia Dortmund have today unveiled their 22/23 third shirt from PUMA, which will be worn in the UEFA Champions League and the DfB Pokal this season.
As is traditional for the Bundesliga side, Borussia Dortmund have unveiled their new third shirt, an alternative take on their traditional home look specifically for cup competitions, and this season set to feature in the 22/23 Champions League campaign as well as the DfB Pokal. As has been the case in the past, the third shirt drops the 1&1 sponsor, with Evonik stepping up in its place.
The design of the new Dortmund third shirt takes inspiration from the shirt worn in the 1989 DfB Pokal final against Werder Bremen. In that match, Bremen took an early lead before Dortmund equalised through Nobby Dickel. Dickel then added his second of the match and Dortmund’s third, with the game eventually finishing 4-1. This new shirt is reminiscent of the one worn in that match, in which the team brought the cup to the Borsigplatz.
