They’re at it again. EA7 and Napoli have unveiled a special edition shirt for Halloween, the club’s fourth kit of the season. It features some suitably spooky graphics in the form of bats swarming up from the hem, and will reportedly be worn in tomorrow’s game against Torino, virtually a month ahead of the scariest night of the year.
Last season EA7 went a bit nuts with their kit releases for Napoli, releasing a plethora of options for the season (was it 13 in the end? We honestly lost count, hence the use of the word “plethora”. We won’t do it again). It was excused somewhat as initial reports suggested that the kit deal with Georgio Armani’s brand extension was a one season deal, and that they were making the most of that window. But imagine our shock when this season’s kits came out, once again produced by EA7. Well, it now looks like they are also set to follow last season to a certain extent, with the reveal of the club’s new special edition Halloween-themed fourth shirt.
OK, so EA7 and Napoli haven’t quite gone as extreme as last season…yet. By this time in the last campaign they had already released four domestic competition jerseys, two tweaked Europa League versions with the gold trim (the away only switched out the sponsor logo), three Maradona tribute shirts and the special Halloween kit. This year’s rendition of the latter is only the fourth. Only!
Still, what we get is a spooky tweak to the Serie A side’s traditional home look. The classic sky blue base is overlaid by a graphic of black bats swarming upwards from the hem, thinning as they travel upwards to reveal the aforementioned blue base. Crest, branding and sponsor all remain the same as the home shirt, while black collar and cuffs complete the look.
It’s not yet clear whether the shirt’s appearance will be a one off in the match against Torino tomorrow, but one would hope that with a full month of preparation for tricking and treating that it won’t be. Would be a bit of a mistimed waste otherwise.
