Celebrating the brand’s 100 year anniversary and celebrating this together with DBU, Hummel have unveiled the Denmark 2023 home shirt. The design is inspired by the sensational victory at the European Championship in 1992, which marks the biggest sporting result in both hummel’s and DBU’s history.
Arguably on a par with Leicester City winning the Premier League in 2015, Denmark’s triumph at Euro ’92 is one of the greatest underdog stories in football history. The nation only made it into the competition following the disqualification of Yugoslavia as a result of the breakup of the country and the ensuing warfare there. But they went on to create a piece of footballing history when they became European Champions with a 2-0 win again Germany. Now, Hummel go back to the iconic design from that tournament for the new Denmark home shirt.
The jersey, which will be worn for the first time at the European Championship qualifier against Finland on 23 March in Parken Stadium, sports several design elements inspired by the iconic jersey from ’92 – including the characteristic red and white stripes on the sleeves.
Hummel director Allan Vad Nielsen said: “We are very proud to be able to present the new Danish national team jersey, which is a tribute to the absolute greatest sporting moment in our 100-year history.
”There is no doubt that the jersey from ’92 has a very special place in the history of both hummel and DBU, and we hope that the new national team jersey will bring back memories for the Danish football fans and give them the opportunity to wear a piece of Danish sports history in a new and modernised version.”
