On 1 August 2023, Portuguese side Boavista Futebol Clube celebrate their 120th anniversary, and to celebrate this occasion, Kelme have produced a special commemorative jersey, which will be used throughout the 23/24 season as an alternative shirt.
With a mid table place pretty much secured in Liga Portugal, Porto-based Boavista are looking to the future by turning to the past. The club are set to celebrate their 120th anniversary on 1 August this year, and to mark the occasion they have had a special commemorative shirt produced for them by technical sponsors, Kelme. But rather than wait until mid-summer, Boavista are set to debut the new shirt in their next game, against SC Braga, scheduled for Saturday, 20 May at Estádio do Bessa Séc. XXI.
Inspired by one of the club's oldest kits, the shirt is a tribute to Boavista F.C.’s history. Presented in the club’s classic colour combo of black and white, it abandons the now traditional checkered design of the normal home shirt in favour of a more simplistic and historic look. It features several nostalgic elements, and attention is instantly drawn to that throwback collar, complete with faux drawstrings. A retro club crest takes up position on the left of the chest, but unfortunately the design also features the club’s sponsors, detracting from the historical visage somewhat. Being that this kit will be used as an alternate option for the 23/24 season, it appears it is a necessary evil. Still, at least they fall in line with the monochrome presentation.
The bad news is that the club are only releasing 150 units of this shirt for sale, each one unique and numbered. They will be for sale from 20 May at Loja Axadrezada, Boavista’s shop.
No word on whether these will be available online, but it looks unlikely. Best get booking that ticket to Portugal if you're not already there and are hoping to get one...
