Following on from the reveal of their new away kit for the 2023 campaign, Brazilian side Fluminense have now unveiled their new home jersey from Umbro. The design features nods to the club’s 1952 Copa Rio win.
Fluminense is a club that is steeped in history and success. One such moment of success for the club came in 1952, when they lifted the Copa Rio – the second and last edition of what was the first intercontinental club football tournament with teams from Europe and South America, held in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Fluminense was crowned champion at Maracanã when they overcame Corinthians in the finals. This year is the 71st anniversary of that momentous win, and the club’s new home shirt for the 2023 season from Umbro pays tribute to the achievement.
With a classic club look that embraces the club’s unique green, white and garnet colour scheme, the new home shirt design sees the vertical tricolour stripes appear narrower than last season's model, giving an elegant and sophisticated tone to the new shirt. The sleeves follow the green, white and burgundy pattern from the collar to the hem, which has contrasting white accent. Graphics reminiscent of Umbro diamonds appear as a sublimated print in the space on the shoulders and arms.
In honour of the 71st anniversary of the Copa Rio win, two special labels were developed by Umbro, one located on the hem of the shirt and the other on the inside of the collar. The first has the silhouette of the cup raised in 1952, in gold, next to the historic year, while the second bears the inscription “World Champions”.
