Arriving with a fresh minty fresh option for the 23/24 season, Nike and Chelsea have revealed the club’s new third shirt. As with the home and away shirt, it arrives sponsor-free, for a clean take.

Someone always has to be last with their shirt releases, and this season Chelsea seem to be content to take that responsibility, with the third shirt arriving after other team releases, just like with their home and away shirt. As with those two, the third shirt is also sponsor less, while the club continue to look for a new front-of-shirt partner. It means a clean look across the board, which some fans favour, while others see it as the design feeling somewhat incomplete. The design is inspired by two kits worn many decades apart, and it's set to be used for the first time during the Premier League match at Bournemouth on Sunday.

The first inspiration is the Eton Blue that the very first Chelsea players sported back in 1905-07, its use back then originating from the racing colours of the club president and a lighter shade than the blues for which Chelsea became renowned. Joining it in an inspiration sense for this current third kit for this season is the ‘jade’ hue away kit from 1986/87.

Here, the mint green base is joined by black accents on the collar, cuffs and side strips that frame the design, linking up with the Swoosh branding and club crest, which also appear in the contrasting black.
