Vasco Da Gama Reveal & Debut Special 23/24 Third Shirt From Kappa

Vasco Da Gama and Kappa has emerged as one of these partnerships that just don’t produce bad shirts, and the latest third shirt for the Brazilian side is simply further evidence of this fact, arriving in a smart retro style that pays tribute to the 100 anniversary of the Camisas Negras.

This time last year, Vasco Da Gama dropped one of the best shirt designs of the year with the reveal of their 23/24 third shirt from Kappa, and now the Brazilian side are at it again with another sublime third shirt, this time for 23/24. The shirt pays homage to the legendary Camisas Negras, the Carioca Champions of 1923, celebrating teh first squad in Brazil to feature multiple black players and the profound impact that these athletes brought not only to Vasco, but to the whole of Brazil and the world.

The new third shirt was debuted in Vasco’s 4-2 win over Fluminense, shortly after the club had revealed the new look. The design is inspired by the kit used by the most important team in the club’s history, presented in modern tones. On first glance, the retro look sees a black base with white trim on the collar and cuffs, while the red cross crest stands out along with further golden embellishments.

Located above that standout red cross of Christ, the star alludes to the 1923 title and the inside of the collar bears the names of the 11 champion players. The dates refer to the centenary of the Camisas Negras.

Looking deeper into the black, and the Jacquard on the shirt is made up of phrases from the famous song sung by Cruzmaltina fans in the stands. The song exalts the pride of being Vasco and also pays tribute to the Camisas Negras, who were represented in the rehearsal by three generations of a Vasco family: Walmir (father), Manoela (daughter) and Jaime (nephew), featured in the publicity images.

To add further to the symbolic meaning of the shirt, each member of the Vasco Da Gama squad were presented with their third shirt in a personalised box before the game against Fluminense, with a letter written in the language of their country of origin.
