PUMA Launch Manchester City 'Year Of The Dragon' Kit For CNY

Celebrating the Chinese New Year, PUMA have launched a special Manchester City ‘Year of the Dragon’ kit and collection, which is set to be worn by both the men’s and women’s teams in a future fixture.

Turning attention to the club’s fanbase in the East once more, PUMA have produced a special kit and collection for Manchester City in celebration of Chinese New Year, just as they did last season. This year is the Year of the Dragon, and the collection is centred around  a hand-drawn illustration of the traditional Wood Dragon, which forms the base graphic of the new kit. The design also builds off the the Home Kit story, which is connected with the turrets of the Etihad Stadium; the hand-drawn, wood-carved illustrations of the jersey artfully intertwine the strength of the Wood Dragon with the architectural splendour of the Etihad's iconic turrets.

Manchester City Women will showcase the new collection on pitch in the Continental Cup fixture against Manchester United on Wednesday 24 January 2024, while the men's team will wear it as a prematch shirt ahead of their match against Spurs on 26 January.

The collection once again features a jacket alongside the new kit, track pants and t-shirts that all combine club heritage with references to Chinese culture, acknowledging the Chinese New Year, which this year is the Year of the Dragon. Each piece in the collection carries the dragon iconography, symbolising the power and fluidity that are hallmarks of both the legendary creature and the football club.

Serena Gosling, Director of Retail & Licensing at Manchester City, stated, “Manchester City has a large and growing global community of fans who love to show their passion for the club by wearing our products. Following the success of our recent kits, we are excited to launch another bespoke collection kit that blends innovation and tradition. We hope our fans across the world enjoy the Year of the Dragon shirt and the accompanying apparel range.

Marco Mueller, PUMA Senior Head of Product Line Management Teamsport Apparel, said, "In designing this collection, we've paid homage to the iconic symbols of strength and endurance that resonate with Manchester City fans — the dragon and the famous Etihad turrets. Our aim was to create a design that fans would wear with pride, reflecting their unwavering support and the cultural richness that the Year of the Wood Dragon brings to the community."
