Celebrating Oakland and the 100th anniversary of the Oakland Tribune Tower, USL side Oakland Roots have revealed their 2024 home and away kits from Charly.
The last couple of weeks has been dominated by Major League Soccer on the new kit front, but with all those kits now revealed (and helpfully ranked by us) and with the league well underway, attention turns to other new kit releases from elsewhere. Staying Stateside, and it’s the turn of USL sides to start revealing their new kits as they gear up for the 2024 season, and an eye-catching release from that group has come from Oakland Roots SC, who have unveiled their new home and away kits from Charly.
“Dropping a new jersey to the world is my favorite time of year,” said Chief Marketing Officer Edreece Arghandiwal. “Our club is about telling stories and paying homage to the iconic people and places that make ‘The Town’ the greatest city in the world. So much of our lives are spent together, and we are excited to release jerseys that commemorate this special community."
The 2024 Oakland Roots SC home kit is styled with a black base colour, overlaid with a striking mosaic of geometric shapes. This kaleidoscope of coloured shapes symbolises diversity and unity, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the club and community.
The design suggests a sense of forward motion and growth, much like the vertical advancement the club aims to embody. The geometric shapes are seen as building blocks, representing the foundational strength and structure of the club, each block a step in its upward journey. The overall aesthetic of the jersey is modern, bold, and energetic, aiming to resonate with fans and players alike and to make a statement both on and off the field.
The away kit is a stylish and meaningful homage to the iconic Tribune Tower in Oakland, California, coinciding with its centennial celebration. It essentially takes the template of the home kit, but washes away the colour, providing a refined colour palette inspired by the Tower's architectural hues, with a base of pale off-white complemented by accents in soft teal and warm copper tones, reminiscent of the oxidation and brickwork found on the historic building.
Both designs feature that same complex pattern of angular, geometric shapes, while the away's grey presentation subtly echoes the tower's faceted structure and the interplay of light and shadow on its surfaces. This mosaic of shapes not only represents the towering verticality of the Tribune Tower but also symbolises the upward growth and ambition of the Oakland Roots SC. The pattern is a visual metaphor for progress, with each shape building upon the other, much like the stories within the tower and the unfolding chapters of the club's history.
