At the beginning of this week, Nike lifted the veil on its 2024 Federation kits, and amongst them was England’s new home and away kits. And beating the senior men’s team to a debut, the Under 17 and Under 18 teams wore the kits in recent fixtures.
Nike revealed its full lineup of new kits for its federations earlier this week, with England numbering amongst the ranks, receiving a modern take on a classic design for their home shirt and departure from the norm for their away kit. The kits are set to be worn by the men’s and women’s teams (with the Lionesses set to get a bespoke kit refresh in June) and while we wait for the senior men’s team to debut the kits in their fixtures against Brazil and Belgium over the next few days, the youth teams have beaten them to the punch.
England Under 17s wore the home kit in their U17 Euro qualifier against Northern Ireland yesterday, giving it a fitting to start to life on the pitch with a resounding 5-1 win, while the Under 18s made a winning start on their trip to Spain after a 2-1 victory over Czechia in the new away kit.
The England 2024 Home kit features a trim on the cuffs that takes its cues from the training gear worn by England’s 1966 legends, with a gradient of blues and reds topped with purple. The same trim also features on the shorts and socks.
The Away kit then reimagines iconic national kits with a modern twist. Traditionally, England away kits are either blue of red, but this year’s strip combines the two for a deep purple base colour. It’s then joined by eye-catching graphics on the side panels that feature seven different colours, supposedly to “pay homage to the nation’s forward-thinking style”. It was one of the standout features upon the kits reveal, and sure enough, it also stands out in action on the pitch.
We also got a good look at the new number sets, which, in keeping with other nations’ typefaces, has something of a 90s throwback feel that we’re all for.
