Malaga & Hummel Reveal Special 120-Year Anniversary Shirt

Celebrating 120 years of the club, hummel and CF Málaga have revealed a special edition shirt, which recreates the shirt worn in the 1988/89 season.

Who doesn’t love a good anniversary shirt? Well we certainly do, especially when they look as good as Máalaga CF’s latest, which has been created by hummel in celebration of the club’s 120th anniversary. The design pays tribute to 120 years by recreating one of the most iconic kits from the club’s past – the one worn by CD Málaga in the 1988/89 season by players such as Juanito, Boquerón Esteban and Lauridsen. That season saw the  side return to the Spanish First Division after a period of absence – a distant dreamland from where the club currently find themselves, in the third tier of Spanish football.

Styled after that 88/89 shirt, the special edition sees a classic polo-style collar joined by a subtle sublimated print throughout. Hummel’s iconic chevrons lend the look an added level of class, running through the shoulders and sleeves. While that sponsor at first appears jarring, it is actually part of the retro revival of the design. The front of the CD Málaga shirt during the summer of 1988 featured Tívoli (an amusement park in the area), with the emblematic Benalmádena park having opened its doors in 1972. It has been one of the highlights in Malaga over the years, and whilst this advertisement didn’t feature on the OG CD Málaga shirt in an official capacity, it’s been chosen to feature here as being one of the most remembered sponsors due to the emotional connection of the people of Málaga with the attractions venue.

Further to that, the shirt features a retro club crest, with the initials MCF replacing CDM (Club Deportivo Málaga – the club changed its name in the early 90s). Finally, a special 120 anniversary logo is located in the lower torso area.

The first batch of the Malaga 120 year shirt has already sold out, but the club have announced that a second batch is on the way and will be available for presale soon.
