Drawing inspiration from the city’s flag, Macron has unveiled the 24/25 home and away shirts for FC Basel, which both feature striking flame graphics that extend from the top and bottom towards of the centre of the shirts.
A couple of years back Macron produced one of the most underrated kits of the campaign for FC Basel. Now they’re at it again, and this time it’s a design that the brand has carried across both the home and away kits. Drawing inspiration from the city’s "flamed flag”, both shirts see a flame graphic dominating the whole design. This motif references the ancient standards of the city on which black ‘flames’ on a white background converge towards a Baslerstab (bishop’s crosier) in the centre. So that look is more faithfully recreated on the away shirt, while the home shirt is presented in the club’s traditional red and blue.
The historic origin of the flame motif has made it extremely widespread in the culture and traditions of Basel. It appears, for example, as black ‘tongues’ on the drums used during city festivals, including the famous Basel carnival. The flame motif is also associated with the basilisk, the mythical animal that has become a symbol of the city and that appears on so many of its buildings and monuments.
The background of the home shirt is blue while the flames are in red edged in gold. Further to the flame graphic, it has a black, knitted polo neck with two thin red lines, and the same colours reappear on the sleeve cuffs.
The away shirt is predominantly ivory in colour, with black-trimmed neck and sleeves. Both shirts then see a custom inside neck label featuring a black background and the words ‘FC BASEL 1893’ below the image of a basilisk and a ball.
Like all the garments that Macron produces for its partner clubs, FC Basel’s new Home kit is made in Eco Fabric, a polyester material derived entirely from recycled plastic, confirming the commitment to sustainability and the environment shared by the Italian brand and the Swiss club.
