Celebrating the explosion of fresh creativity and attitude that was punk, Nike and Chelsea launch the club’s new third shirt for 24/25, which Chelsea Women debuted in their pre-season match against Arsenal in the United States.
Rounding out what is a tidy wardrobe for the 24/25 season following the earlier reveals of their new home and away shirts, Chelsea reveal their new punk-inspired third shirt from Nike. Why punk? Glad you asked. Back in the 70s, the epicentre for the creative and cultural earthquake that was the punk movement was London’s fashionable West End and the King’s Road. On Saturdays, punks and Chelsea fans mixed in great numbers on the King’s Road and in the Shed End too, forging a bond that is evident in the fact that famous members of punk rock groups are Chelsea supporters to this day.
Standing out in a black jersey and shorts trimmed in dayglo yellow and pink, harking back to shockwaves a radical clothing boutique at the club’s end of Chelsea generated in the 1970s, ripped-up clashing punk patterns are revived in the weave. If the Blues’ patch typography is straight out of 1977, the vertical double Nike Swoosh – present on the brand’s key European team third shirts this season – nods to the current acceleration of the women’s game. And then, joining that double Swoosh is the lion that replaces the full club badge, presented in a double layer too – giving it a 3D feel.
