Carrying a crucial message during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, FC Bayern Women and adidas, in conjunction with LeGer by Lena Gercke, have revealed a new special edition kit, which will be worn for the first time in their match away at Wolfsburg on 12 October.
Back in March of this year, FC Bayern Women unveiled their first own specially designed jersey, produced by technical partners, adidas, and developed in conjunction with LeGer by Lena Gercke. FC Bayern Women and LeGer have been in partnership since last year, and the label has kitted out the women’s team for their travels to Champions League matches during this tme. But it’s more than just a fashion partnership, and that’s emphasised with their latest drop: a new special edition jersey that doesn’t only stand for female empowerment but also carries a second crucial message during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which runs throughout October. The idea behind the jersey is to raise awareness for breast cancer prevention together with Allianz and the German Breast Cancer Society (DKMS).
The jersey itself features a playful and feminine design, embodying the spirit of women in football. Pink elements symbolise awareness and support in the fight against breast cancer as part of Pink October. In addition to the jersey, a matching collection has been designed with a small heart inspired by the jersey elements. The pink ribbon is once again found on the jersey this year, with it featuring on each number on the back.
“FC Bayern is more than a sports club and regularly tackles social questions," said Michael Diederich, FC Bayern deputy CEO. "We’re delighted about the collaboration with our partners Allianz, adidas and Lena Gercke in tackle the important issue of breast cancer prevention, and the fact we can raise funds for DKMS together.”
Lena Gercke added: “I’ve been supporting DKMS and its ‘look good feel better’ patient programme for many years. I've seen for myself how the programme has given patients courage and hope. It’s very special for me that we are raising awareness of Pink October even more with our second joint FC Bayern jersey and drawing attention to the screening programme. There are great names behind this cooperation, and we are all united by the good cause. I’m very proud of our collaboration.”
Daphne Böcker, Co-CEO of Allianz Kunde und Markt said: “I personally know the feeling of having to take care of others first. And on top of that, preventive care is not exactly on my list of favourite things to do. This combination means that what is actually most important, your own health, ends up falling by the wayside. Many people will probably be like me. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in Germany and can affect anyone. What we can do ourselves is to take preventive care into our own hands and actively attend appointments in good time. I’m happy and grateful that we are sending out a strong signal in the fight against breast cancer with this special jersey together with the Bayern players. We would also like to wish all those affected strength and confidence.”
The FC Bayern Frauen x adidas x LeGer jerseys and the wider collection are now available in all FC Bayern stores and online.
