Celebrating 100 years of Colombian football, adidas honour the nation, its people, its history and its Federation with a one-off special edition kit and capsule, which will be worn on Tuesday 15 October in the match against Chile.
The Federación Colombiana de Fútbol (or Colombian Football Federation to you and me) was founded on 12 October 1924. Now, with the 100-year anniversary of that institute upon us, adidas honour the Federation’s centenary with a special edition kit and capsule, which sees the brand bringing back an iconic and nationwide pride design that’s focussed on the country and its flag, nodding to the past whilst also looking into an even brighter future.
Starting with the kit, and the special edition jersey draws inspiration from the kit worn by the national team for the 1945 South American Championship. It sees an off-white base utilised as the perfect canvas for the yellow, blue and red tricolour stripe – symbolising the Colombian flag – to ride across the chest, drawing all focus. The returning Trefoil logo, a prominent figure across many Adidas football releases this season, sits on the right of the chest, opposite the Colombian crest, both of which are presented in light colours that are not visible from a distance, promoting the vintage vibes of the design. The collar and cuffs also feature the trio of colours from the national flag, providing a nice finish to the look.
Inside the collar sits a special graphic of the number 100, accompanied by the Colombia football crest and the letters FCF, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Colombian football.
The jersey is then joined in the capsule by an Originals Beckenbauer tracksuit, which the players of the national team wore when they travelled to their match against Bolivia this week. It features a dark blue (Night Indigo) base combined with the Trefoil logo and the Colombia football Centenary crest (the one from inside the collar of the jersey) in light gold. It is also finished with those yellow, blue and red accents in the collar and cuffs.
Finally there’s a tee to round out the collection. It very much follows in the footsteps of the jersey, only sans the colourful band running across the chest, and with the ‘100’ logo in place of the traditional crest. A nice alternative/accompaniment to the jersey if ever there were one.
