FC Basel and Macron pay homage to the annual Basel carnival with a new jersey designed in collaboration with illustrator Domo Löw. Pulling inspiration from elements of the festivities, the jersey features fun graphics that catch the eye at first glance.

As part of Basel traditions, every year the city experiences three days of ‘abnormality’, where an event that is unique for its creativity and unmatched artistic expression takes place – Basel Carnival. Once again, FC Basel and kit providers Macron are paying tribute to the incredible event with a special edition Carnival kit. This year, ‘Schnitzelbängg’ – musical rhymes arranged in short, masked plays – sits at the heart of the design, with their mocking verses perfectly embodying the light-hearted spirit of the Carnival. The kit also pays homage to another Basel Carnival tradition, in the hand-painted lantern art inspired by lanterns carried by parade anticipants during early hours of the morning when all the lights are switched off.

This kit is a blend of art, creativity and design, crafted in collaboration with illustrator Domo Löw. Löw has hand-drawn all illustrations featured on the jersey, including the Macron and club logo, and player’s names and numbers.

Arriving as a long-sleeve cut, the shirt is modelled by Xherdan Shaqiri – Swiss legend. The jersey itself fashions a navy-blue body, with red and royal blue conquering either side and sleeves. Each sleeve is decorated a phrase “Wenn me die scheenschte drei Dääg würdischutte, denn gäbt s 48 mol 90 minute” translating to “If you were to play football all through the three most beautiful days, you would have 48 90-minute periods”. The inside neck label is customised with the logo of the club alongside carnival motifs and ‘designed in Bologna’ – Macron’s signature sign off.
